Story from Kelli Stegman

Resilience doesn’t always mean bending without breaking. Sometimes we find ourselves utterly shattered—ostensibly broken beyond repair. It is in those moments that we learn what we’re truly made of, but only through family and friends who repair us; help us rediscover our worth, and guide us toward something that resembles normalcy. This is done through conversation, ritual and by bonding to the stronger parts of others.

This work encapsulates the path to healing. Shattered but not destroyed, this individual drew strength from close friends, women, who provided deep healing through ritualization. Tear by tear. Word by word. Glass by glass.

Touch is an important part of the healing process. As such, this piece could only be created through tactility: tearing each piece, applying each fastening, rebuilding it with all its imperfections and scars.
